Cincinnati is a cheerful city with an array of cultural attractions, festive entertainment and appealing architecture. The city offers all the amenities of a major city, but with the delightful atmosphere of a small town.

Cincinnati’s dense downtown area branches out from Fountain Square, which is one of many public art fixtures in the area. Carew Tower, across the street, is home to a gallery with stunning views of Mount Adams and the Ohio River. The classic Art-Deco Union Terminal rail depot is the largest half-dome building in the world. It houses two museums: the Museum of Natural History and Science (with a Children's Discovery Center) and the Cincinnati Historical Museum.

The internationally famous Cincinnati Zoo is home to many endangered species, including gorillas and white tigers. Kids will especially enjoy the Joseph Spaulding Children's Zoo, which houses an animal nursery. Cincinnati Zoo also has a Botanical Garden with desert, bonsai and rain forest habitats.

Nature-lovers will not be left wanting in this city. In addition to parks and hilly neighbourhoods, the riverside, Suspension Bridge and Central Parkway are all great places to enjoy the outdoors. The Little Miami Scenic River Bikeway is a popular 30-kilometre path. Other outdoor activities include horseback riding, canoeing and inline skating.

Daytrips from Cincinnati are convenient by car. Cross the river to Covington, Kentucky to discover a neighbourhood of 100-year-old rowhouses, antique shops and restaurants. Covington Landing, at the foot of the bridge, is a floating mall by day and a popular hotspot by night. Dayton, a pleasant hour-long drive away, is most famous as the testing grounds used by Orville and Wilbur Wright. The US Air Force Museum here is the largest of its kind in the world.

Interstate 71 (from Louisville) joins I-75 (from Lexington) just south of Cincinnati in Kentucky, and then passes through the loop around town. The Amtrak station, at the Cincinnati Museum Center, has trains arriving from Indianapolis and Chicago (among other destinations) several times a week. Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport is 15 minutes by car southwest of downtown on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River.
