The Costa del Sol has been consistently popular with visitors for more than thirty years. Many people own villas and return time and again for the Coast's great food, scenery and cheap prices.

The main hub is Malaga, popular for its historic value and lively atmosphere. Marbella is more upbeat and has a magnificent castle built by the Moors. It is an endlessly fascinating old town with a lovely promenade where everyone gathers in the evening. The quaint fishing village of Torremelinos has plenty of reasonably priced accommodation and is a pretty and relaxing place to stay.

Travelling by car is by far the best way to see the Costa del Sol. There are so many gorgeous beaches and wonderful little towns that you will find it difficult to decide where to stay. The village of Nerja, known for its ancient, stalactite-filled caves, is a perfect example. Its glorious sea views will make it hard for you to leave.

Benalmadena and Fungiola have great beaches and a casual atmosphere and the mountain village of Mijas is yet another tempting place to linger. Anteguera offers Menga and the Dolmens of Viera, two interesting monuments that should not be missed.

The Costa del Sol is easily accessible, with charter flights available from virtually every European city. Malaga Airport is the main airport for this area and is halfway between Malaga and Torremelinos. Trains run from most European cities to Madrid, where you need to connect to the Coast. By car, the N340 is very scenic and a marvellous way to really see the best of this exquisite coast.
