Dublin, with its interesting history, endless pubs and jovial people, has become one of the top destinations in Europe.
The Dublinia exhibition, beside the centrally located medieval Christchurch Cathedral, is a good starting point for any city tour. Within a 10-minute walk is the magnificent Trinity College, the oldest university in Ireland and home to the famous Book of Kells. Grafton Street, and St Stephen's Green nearby are lively and good for shopping and people watching.
Dublin is a city steeped in history, being over a thousand years old, and many of the towns and settlements that surround it are equally ancient. Dublin Castle is the heart of historic Dublin and the Customs House is one of Dublin's finest heritage buildings. Most importantly, Saint Patrick's Cathedral has contributed much to Irish life throughout its long history.
The pubs of Dublin are not simply places in which to satisfy your thirst. Always filled with friendly, chatty people, they are theatres for storytelling, backdrops for romance, homes away from home, and a shelter from the incessant rain. Head down to the Temple Bar district - the entertainment hub of cobbled lanes near the river.
A visit to the Guinness brewery is essential, while Newbridge House, set on 350 acres of parkland out of the city, boasts one of the finest Georgian interiors in Ireland. The seaside towns of Howth and Bray are less than an hour away by car, while a daytrip to the magnificent green rolling hills of Wicklow, surrounding the pretty lakeside town of Glendalough, is a lovely way to experience the Irish countryside.
Dublin's international airport has numerous services to Europe and the USA, and other worldwide destinations. There are also very favourable discount flights to Dublin from selected European destinations. Buses run regularly to the city centre and taxi services are numerous.
