The region has an amazing array of towns and you can visit rural townships, historic villages which once supported timber cutters or cane farmers, pretty village hideaways with quaint cottages, and interesting shops. The coastal centres offer a wealth of experience, sophisticated cuisine and a huge array of shopping options.
From Coolangatta to Surfers Paradise there is no shortage of activities with hotels, bars, nightclubs and endless shops. Dreamworld is home to wild rides and Australia's 'Big Brother' television series. For heart-thumping action take the tallest high-speed gravity rollercoaster in the southern hemisphere.
For more laid back options you can go horseriding in fertile valleys or spend time exploring ancient rainforests. Closer to Brisbane, good beaches are to be found at Manly and Sandgate, while a day spent sailing among the many islands of Moreton Bay is always a fantastic experience.
Brisbane's Eagle Farm Airport is a busy international destination with frequent arrivals from and departures to Asia, Europe, the Pacific islands, North America, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. There are also many smaller domestic airports servicing the region. These include Coolangatta, Ballina, Lismore, Casino and, further south, Grafton.
