The tiny and scenically beautiful Channel Island of Guernsey touts itself as the warmest spot in Britain. The island's rural charm and pristine countryside has made it a popular holiday destination.

Guernsey boasts a fine assortment of historical sites nestled in among magnificent natural scenery. Visitors can view WWII bunkers, Neolithic burial mounds and medieval turret castles. Additionally, there are gorgeous bays, as well as the lovely beaches and coastal walks.

St Peter Port contains a plethora of museums, historic buildings and other attractions well worth seeing. A key feature of the city is Hauteville House, the historic home of Victor Hugo when he was exiled from France. A popular museum, the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery, is located in the Victorian Candie Gardens.

There are plenty of leisure activities, including great tax-free shopping in St Peter Port. The city also has most of the island's nightlife options, including theatre, classical concerts and comedy, as well as cinemas, bars and restaurants. The entire island has an assortment of fine restaurants, with many specialising in sumptuous seafood delicacies such as crab, lobster and scallops.

This tiny island is easily explored by car. There are plenty of secluded bays and coves waiting to be discovered. Interesting sights include the 800-year-old de Sausmarez Manor with its magnificent gardens and the Art Park. Near St Peter Port is the Maritime Museum, based inside Fort Grey. The fort has a distinctive Martello tower dating from 1804 and originally constructed to halt an invasion by Napoleon. Alternatively, the neighbouring islands of Herm, Sark, and Alderney are a short ferry ride away, and make for fun daytrips.
