Luton Airport - sky guide
for Luton Airport car hire
Situated north of London, Luton Airport is a busy airport handling six million passengers a year, mainly through budget carriers; Luton is the home of the hugely popular Easyjet. Major carriers fly to over 60 destinations, including Ireland, Amsterdam and Mediterranean destinations, but, as yet, no long haul destinations.
There is one terminal building which has recently been refurbished and now includes 60 check-in desks, efficient passenger information systems, and a large, comfortable departures lounge. Essential facilities include four bureaux de change, ATMs and web-enabled telephones throughout the terminal building. There are no left-luggage facilities at the airport, but there is a lost property office, as well as a chapel.
There is a range of restaurants, cafés and bars, including a food court and a traditional English pub. There is also a wide variety of shops at the airport, including 24-hour duty-free shopping and a 24-hour newsagent and bookstore. Other facilities include a children’s play centre and baby care rooms.
The airport is fully equipped for disabled passengers and includes adapted toilets and telephones, as well as induction loops at information points. Wheelchairs for transit through the terminal and help with baggage are available free of charge via the special assistance telephones.
There are several electronic information booths at the airport, as well as roving passenger service assistants. The booths contain touch-screen information on onward transportation, local amenities, airport navigation, parking and live flight information.
Luton Airport Parkway Station is connected to the terminal by a free, wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus. Both Thameslink and Midland Mainline provide train services to London.
The number 757 Greenline coach runs daily between the airport and central London, and numerous National Express coaches run from the airport to destinations all over the country. Taxis are readily available, but not cheap. By car, the M1 runs south into London and north into the heart of the country.
There is express, medium-stay and long-stay parking available at the airport, with express parking situated within easy reach of the terminal building. Parking for the disabled is also available and there are courtesy buses to the mid- and long-term car parks. Passengers can pre-book parking through the airport’s website.
