Northern Ireland's enduring appeal is enhanced by its eye-opening variety of attractions, from world-renowned natural wonders to historic towns and villages.

Northern Ireland is the homeland of St Patrick, the world's most celebrated saint and the best place to celebrate his Feast Day on March 17. Many of this area's finest attractions are administered by MAGNI - Museums And Galleries of Northern Ireland. The top five are the Ulster Museum, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Ulster-American Folk Park, Armagh County Museum and the newest, most popular attraction in the country, W5 - Belfast's Interactive Discovery Centre.

The city of Belfast is dominated by politics, history and religion. The major central landmark is Donegal Square, surrounded by imposing remnants of the Victorian era. It is in the west of the city that the poverty shows and where (Protestant) Shankill and (Catholic) Falls roads run. The Crown Liquor Saloon displays Victorian architectural extravagance and the Grand Opera House across the road is another of Belfast's great landmarks.

To the north is the dramatic coastline of the Causeway Coast and Glens, with its many myths and legends. The Giant's Causeway is a remarkable seascape consisting of thousands of upright basalt shafts. Head west to Londonderry with its poets, storytellers, festivals and music. In the southeast are the Kingdoms of Down where you can enjoy the Mountains of Mourne, Strangford Lough, fishing villages, gardens, and historic houses. To the southwest, Fermanagh Lakeland offers an inviting haven for relaxation.

The hills, mountains, rivers and lakes plus the spectacular coastline provide a wonderful natural setting for walking, cycling, fishing, cruising and many other sports. The area boasts some of the best golf courses in the world. A series of marked routes have been developed throughout Northern Ireland, meandering along coastlines and riversides and through forests and glens.

Virtually all international visitors to Ireland travel via England. There are flights between Dublin and Belfast and London's four international airports, as well as flights from British provincial cities. Several major European cities offer direct flights to Ireland.
