Oklahoma City - sky guide

Oklahoma City is a big city and the capital of the state of Oklahoma. The city boasts some excellent museums and entertainment options and an atmosphere harking back to the days of the Wild West.
Among the points of interest in Oklahoma City are the State Capitol (built chiefly of white limestone), and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center (retelling stories of settler life in the area). Also here is the Kirkpatrick Center, a multi-museum complex which includes the Airspace Museum, the International Photography Hall of Fame, and the Omniplex (a hands-on science museum).
Frontier City Theme Park is a real draw, with fun for all the family. Attractions include rollercoaster-style rides and the largest Ferris wheel in Oklahoma, as well as shows and performances by top country artists. Myriad Botanical Gardens, in the centre of downtown, surrounds a picturesque stream-fed lake stocked with fish; while the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory, complete with waterfall and butterflies, is home to exotic plants and flowers.
There are many opportunities for dining out and making merry. Restaurants range from the finest of dining establishments to fast food burger bars and trendy street cafés. There are countless venues offering live music, from jazz to blues to alternative rock, as well as a plentiful supply of pubs, bars and nightclubs.
Exploring the region by car is a wonderful experience. To the east is the town of Tahlequah, site of the Indian resettlement and Cherokee Heritage Center; outdoor enthusiasts are well catered for in the surrounding mountains. Western Oklahoma has beauty in its remote barrenness of salt plains, sand dunes and the imposing Wichita Mountains. To the south is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, with its lush woodlands, scenic prairies and mineral springs.
Three major interstates converge on Oklahoma City, the I-35, I-40 and I-44. There is a regular rail service from Fort Worth, Texas, provided by Amtrak. Alternatively, Greyhound Lines buses arrive here from cities in other states and from major centres. Will Rogers World Airport is south of the city and receives mainly domestic traffic, with most international visitors arriving via Dallas-Fort Worth. Shuttles and taxis are available for transfers.
