Located inland in the southern part of California, Palm Springs enjoys an oasis-like setting in the desert, boasts warm temperatures year round, and is a golfer’s paradise.
For many, one of the best parts of Palm Springs is the ride up Mount San Jacinto to dine in the restaurant at the top. The Aerial Tramway whisks visitors up the side of the 3,301m mountain, where they can enjoy hiking and skiing, and take in the fantastic views.
The town itself is a delightful mixture of gardens, museums and hot springs. The Palm Springs Desert Museum has an excellent collection of archaeological finds and fine art; the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum has displays on the Cahuilla Indian tribe; and the Palm Springs Air Museum has some fine examples of WWII planes. The delightful Moorten Botanical Gardens have unique desert vegetation, and offer a pleasant respite.
If hiking and skiing is not to your fancy, then head for one of the many hotels with hot spring waters pumped into the pools; alternatively, Oasis Waterpark is ideal for the whole family with its various waterslides and activities. There are some top quality restaurants with superb cuisine on the menu here. Keep your eyes open for celebrities!
The surrounding region has some fantastic scenery and drives, starting with Highway 111, which winds its way through all the famous towns of the area. For the rock climbing enthusiast, there is Joshua Tree National Park; additionally, the nearby Indian Canyons feature 2,000-year-old Washington palms in Palm Canyon. Hiking is very popular here, with hundreds of hectares of scenic trails.

Palm Springs International Airport receives regular domestic and limited international traffic; there are also three other local airports for light aircraft.
