Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is located in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina, 16kms southeast of Durham and 16kms northwest of Raleigh. It is one of the most rapidly expanding airports in the USA and serves an estimated 11 million passengers each year.
RDU has two terminals: Terminal A (international) and Terminal C (domestic). Bureaux de change and ATMs are available at the business centres located in Terminal A near the baggage claim area and in Terminal C on the main concourse at gate C16. A lost luggage service is available from the RDU Airport Authority Police Department Office. There is also a meditation area, and family restrooms with infant changing facilities.
All toilets, car parks and shuttles are wheelchair-accessible, and there are lifts connecting all areas of the airport. TDD telephones are available throughout each terminal.
Terminal A restaurants include: Carolina's Landing Lounge, Food Court, Destinations Pub & Deli, Gourmet Bean and Utter Delights. Shops include: News Connection, NC Store, Jersey Mike's, Toy Terminal, Paradies Gift Shop, Par Avion, Lee's News & Snacks, Book Cellar, Superior Shine and Play Port. Refreshments in Terminal C can be found at: Ivy's Express, Gelato Amare, Ivy's Grill, University Bar, Pizza Strada, Carolina Spirits and First Flight Deli. News & Gifts contains some reading material.
Taxi ranks are located outside the baggage claim areas. Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) offers public van transportation connecting Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary with Research Triangle Park. R&G Airport Shuttle delivers passengers to area businesses and universities, and leaves every half-hour from the baggage claim areas.
If you're driving to RDU Airport from Raleigh, follow signs to I-40 north. From Durham, take either Highway 147 or Highway 70, followed by 540 south to I-40. From I-40, the airport can be reached via junctions 284 and 285.
There are several parking options at the airport, including a daily/hourly parking lot and four park-and-ride lots, providing more than 17,000 parking spaces in total. The park-and-ride lots are served by courtesy airport shuttles which run every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 01:00, or the last flight. Short- and long-term parking is located in a five-level parking deck, linked by pedestrian tunnels to terminals.
Information desks are located in the baggage claim areas of both terminals. Visitor services representatives and volunteers are available throughout the day to answer questions. Tourist information is also available.
