Stansted, to the north of the capital, is the premier airport in the UK for low cost airlines; Ryanair has a huge operation based here. More than 40 carriers fly approximately 14 million passengers to 100 European destinations from Stansted Airport.
The award-winning terminal is easy to use, with Departures and Arrivals both on one level. A choice of ramps, escalators or lifts gives direct access to the rail station, which is directly under the terminal forecourt.
ATMs are located near the bureau de change, adjacent to the International Arrivals end of the concourse. There is also an internet exchange, left-luggage facility and lost property service, as well as a chapel. There are wheelchair-accessible toilets throughout the airport, as well as hearing loops and a TDD telephone on the International Arrivals concourse.
There are various restaurants and bars, including a 24-hour coffee bar in Departures, and services in Arrivals. There are many duty-free outlets and shops throughout the terminal, including well known High street stores, such as: Boots, HMV and Tie Rack; a free shopping collection service is also available.
Stansted Express trains run from the airport to London Liverpool Street Station and back every 15 minutes on weekdays (30-minute departures on weekends). Airbus A6 also runs to the city (24-hour service) every 20 minutes. Jetlink buses run to local towns and National Express coaches go farther afield.
The airport is located just off junction 8 of the M11 motorway and 24kms from the M25 London orbital motorway. Taxis into the centre of the capital are numerous but very expensive.
There are short-, medium- and long-term car parks available. Short-term parking is located very close to the terminal building, while medium-term parking is between long-term and the terminal building. Regular coaches transfer passengers to the terminal. Parking spaces for disabled travellers are also provided. An information desk is located in the International Arrivals area (tel: +44 (0) 870 000 0303) and is open daily (05:30-23:00).
