Canada's most populous city is a modern cosmopolitan centre with a commendable multi-cultural atmosphere and lively entertainment. This city has plenty to offer visitors and is extremely easy to explore.
The CN Tower, the world's tallest freestanding structure is Toronto's most famous and most visible landmark. For the past 25 years visitors to the city have enjoyed the fantastic views from the public lookout deck (133 storeys) and some have even ventured higher to the Sky pod (166 storeys).
Casa Loma is a rather odd-looking castle that looks down on this modern city from a small hill. It's actually the result of the dreams of a local millionaire and was built recently, but is interesting nonetheless. If you're a sports fan, Toronto also hosts Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
The popular Harbor Front Centre is a year-round facility, featuring concerts, dance performances, readings, films and kids' shows every weekend and many weeknights throughout the year. Finding a place to eat, drink or party isn't difficult downtown in this vibrant city.
For shoppers, Kensington Market and St Lawrence Market are worthwhile, and there is a vast maze of an underground shopping mall beneath the CN Tower and Eaton Centre, boasting more than 12,000 shops.
Centre Island is a peaceful island getaway just a short ferry ride from the downtown and is popular with locals. Another big draw card is Paramount Canada's Wonderland, an enormous amusement park with a water park, numerous rides, an African safari and live performances.
Toronto is located within easy driving distance of both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, and there are several lovely towns along the shore. But its biggest nearby attraction is Niagara Falls. The well-equipped resort town on the Canadian side annually hosts more than 12 million visitors who come to gasp at the sheer power of 750,000 gallons of water tumbling over the mile-long precipice of the three main falls.
Pearson International Airport is Canada's busiest, receiving flights from all over the US as well as from many European centres and selected Asian cities. Alternatively, Toronto City Center Airport is used for domestic and charter flights.
